GOING, GOING, GONEDo you realize that certain species that were incredibly common in the United States went extinct before people even realized there was a problem? The passenger pigeon was once considered the most numerous bird on earth, with a population estimated at 5 billion! In just over 100 years, the last passenger pigeon died and the species was gone forever. Likewise, the American Bison was saved at the very edge of extinction. In Madagascar, tortoises were common until the late 1990s. Now all four species are in danger of becoming extinct in their natural habitat. For your culminating activity, you'll be designing a communications strategy around one a species (or group of species) in Madagascar to help people on a local, national and international level understand the need to take action now.
