| About Wild Explorations
At the Wildlife Conservation Society, we have a long-standing commitment to science education. The Wild Explorations in Science modules provide you and your students with an opportunity to experience the process of inquiry and problem solving that field biologists embark upon every day.
Each Wild Explorations module has been carefully developed to highlight science from our field researchers. The modules lead students through inquiry-based activities around a central theme and an individual or group-centered final project. Students who explore these modules will gain a deeper understanding of basic ecological concepts, research techniques, and environmental threats. We have incorporated investigations that emphasize the interaction between humans and their environment, giving students an opportunity to discuss important ethical, social, and political issues related to science and conservation.
Each module is accompanied by a teacher and student guide to help you navigate through the activities and incorporate the modules into your coursework.
How do teachers use Wild Explorations?
-
All of the modules are divided into an introduction, several science strands, and a culminating activity. Most teachers choose to integrate an entire module into their existing curriculum as a real-world example of science in action.
-
A teacher can choose to do multiple modules in sequence as an elective in environmental science or wildlife science.
-
A teacher can have students do parts of or an entire module in the classroom or as an independent project. |
