The Adirondacks: A Living Landscape
In this module students learn how scientists identify and rely on certain species, called landscape species, to inform conservation decisions for a whole ecosystem. They have the opportunity to choose and score species from the Adirondack region of upstate New York with regard to their suitability as landscape species. Students also learn some ways maps are used in conservation management. This module integrates the use of maps and the analysis of a variety of data with particular focus on the concepts of ecosystems, habitats, niches, and the interdependence of organisms.
