Yellowstone:
Return of the Wolf

In this module, students explore how the reintroduction of wolves to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem affects a prey species, the moose. Students conduct virtual experiments and analyze real data from the field using inquiry and the scientific method. They will take a close look at the interdependence of organisms by analyzing one cascade of effects caused by the reintroduction of this predator. This module introduces concepts of predator-prey relationships, population growth, ecological equilibrium, and human management using data interpretation and graphing. All of this is framed within a current real-life situation in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
