Imagine the path taken by a drop of rain from the time it hits the ground to when it reaches a river, ground water, or the ocean. Any pollutant it picks up on its journey can be carried along.

Such a pollutant is known as runoff. Here in the Midstream-where the water comes into the most extensive contact with such pollutants--you will be focusing on the problem of runoff and how to reduce it.

Depending on its condition, soil can either help curb or worsen runoff. Find out more about soil and whether the nation's leading soil authority is active in your watershed. Go to Dig Up The Dirt.

Depending on how land is used it can be judged as either good or bad for runoff. Find out how to look at land use and label it with runoff-watching terminology. Go to Ground Check.

What happens to runoff when you change the way land is used? Let it rain and add up the runoff.
Go to Let it Rain.
