That's like welcoming you into your own home. Because wherever you are right now - even if it's a desert - you are in a watershed.
Every place, including the roof of your school, catches rain and then
"sheds" it. Gravity pulls that rainwater downwards, into
the nearest body of water. That system - a water body and the land
that drains rainwater into it - is a watershed.
Watersheds are incredibly important because their health determines how much freshwater is available for people to drink. But watersheds are also the home of many species of wildlife who depend on the waters for their existence.
Do you know where YOUR drinking water comes from? Do you know what species of wildlife depend on YOUR watershed?
Why am I here?
You're here find the answers to these questions and many more as you
investigate your own watershed. As you work with data and activities
about a case study - the Bronx River watershed - you will gather notes
on related issues in your own community. These notes will get you
started on a report on some aspect of the land and water where you
live.
